US Champ Speightstown Recovering After Colic Surgery

Gr1-winning US 2004 champion sprinter & now 12-year-old stallion Speightstown (Gone West-Silken Cat, by Storm Cat) had colic surgery on April 1 & is now "recovering well" announced WinStar Farm in Kentucky (where he stands for US$35,000). WinStar president Doug Cauthen said Speightstown "has covered more than 60% of his book to date" & according to surgeons at Hagyard-Davidson-McGee veterinary clinic near Lexington, he "could be back in the breeding shed in 3 or 4 weeks if there are no complications". On the track, Speightstown won 10 of 16 starts (including 2004's Gr1 Breeders' Cup Sprint, Gr2 Churchill Downs Handicap, Gr2 True North Breeders' Cup Handicap & Gr2 Alfred Vanderbilt Handicap) & earned US$1,258,256.
