France Prepares For "Internet Betting Bonanza"
Also in Europe, France "is preparing for an internet betting bonanza after the nation's on-line betting market was opened up on Tuesday, when the legislation to end a century of pari-mutuel monopoly received the green light in the Chambres des Deputes" (members of Parliament voted 299-223 in favour of the bill) reported racingpost.com. The French on-line betting market "is estimated to be worth around 10% of Pari-Mutuel Urbain (off-course tote) turnover, slightly over €9.3 billion (A$14bn) in 2009 but growing fast". Applications for licences to take on-line bets in France on horseracing "will be made to a new regulation body called ARJEL" & initially will be granted for periods of 5 years.
