Melito Wins Gr1 Darley T.J.Smith Stakes

Monday, 12th April 2010

Flagship Arrowfield Stud stallion & former champion Australian sire Redoute's Choice (Danehill-Shantha's Choice, by Canny Lad) added a Gr1 triumph when 3YO filly Melito (Redoute's Choice-Cloister, by Marauding) scored a 0.75-length over her older rivals in the $500,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Darley T.J.Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick. Melito (ridden by Blake Shinn for trainer Gerald Ryan) defeated 6YO mare Hot Danish (Nothin' Leica Dane-Hot N Breezy, by Zephyr Zip) & favoured 4YO gelding Mic Mac (Statue Of Liberty-Amandine, by Tertian). Melito (a $600,000 yearling at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale) now has 3 wins (also including 2009's Gr2 Furious Stakes over 1400m at Randwick & Gr2 Silver Slipper Stakes over 1100m at Rosehill) & 7 placings (including last start's Gr3 Birthday Card Stakes over 1200m at Rosehill on March 27, plus 2009's Gr1 Thousand Guineas over 1600m at Caulfield, Gr2 Wakeful Stakes over 2000m at Flemington, Gr2 Tea Rose Stakes over 1500m at Rosehill, Gr2 Perfect Vision Ilasik Stakes over 1200m at Rosehill, Gr3 Silver Shadow Stakes over 1200m at Randwick & Listed Widden Stakes over 1100m at Randwick) from 13 starts for $852,150 earnings.
