Aust Racing "Merely A Novelty Speed Capital"

Meanwhile fellow turf columnist Matt Stewart argued in The Herald-Sun: "Australian racing's decades-long obsession with youth & speed is being tested by a fascinating surge of staying blood. In the year that celebrates the 150th anniversary of the famous race that represents everything Australian racing isn't - the 3200m Melbourne Cup - the breeding scene is making a dramatic shift towards the staying horse." Noting the deeds of shuttle stallions High Chaparral & Galileo, Stewart declares: "Australian racing prides itself on producing world-class horses, but the truth is we are merely a novelty speed capital."
