Denman Leaves For UK Next Week

Thursday, 15th April 2010

Darley's star 3YO colt Denman (Lonhro-Peach, by Vain) "will leave for England next week with his sights set on the Gr1 July Cup at Newmarket" reported The Sydney Morning Herald. Darley's Australian racing managing Trevor Lobb said Denman "could go into the July Cup (which is sponsored by Sheikh Mohammed) 1st-up, with that race chosen over the Royal Ascot meeting as the undulating 6 furlongs course was considered more suitable for Denman". Lobb noted: "It would be a great way to kick-off his career in Europe, winning a race sponsored by Sheikh Mohammed. The Newmarket 6 furlongs seems to be a course he would really enjoy. It would be a big boost for his sire Lonhro if he won. Being part of a world-wide operation, it would lift the profile of Australia if he was to go over & succeed." Lobb added there were "no plans for any other Australian-based Darley horses to go to Europe", with the 9 horses sent late last year ready to make their mark in Europe as the flat season gets into full swing. Lobb explained: "We are in constant contact about our horses with them (in Europe). The nature of our operation means we will see horses head over there & we could have some coming back over here as well. Of the 9 horses which went over there last year, only 4 raced in Dubai, with Fravashi's 2nd in the Al Quoz Sprint (on World Cup night) a big boost. They are all in Europe & I'm sure we will see them race in the next couple of months."
