US Sire Master Command Euthanased
In the US, multiple Gr2-wining 8YO stallion Master Command (A.P.Indy-Lady Lochinvar, by Lord At War) who was standing his 3rd year at stud at Taylor Made Stallions in Kentucky was euthanased "following an injury sustained after rearing & losing his balance prior to an afternoon breeding session" reported bloodhorse.com. Master Command (whose 2010 fee was US$12,500) covered 127 mares in 2008 & 134 mares in 2009 & Taylor Made vice president Ben Taylor commented: "It's tough to lose any horse, but it's particularly tough to lose a young stallion like Master Command, who had so much potential. This is a big loss for the breeders, shareholders, the farm & everyone involved. Master Command was tremendously popular. We've seen nothing but great things from his 1st-crop of yearlings & we're looking forward to them selling this year." On the track, Pennsylvania-bred Master Command (a US$650,000 yearling at the 2003 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale) recorded 8 wins (5 stakes, including the Gr2 Meadowlands Breeders' Cup Stakes over 9 furlongs, Gr2 New Orleans Handicap over 9 furlongs, Gr3 National Jockey Club Handicap over 9 furlongs, Gr3 Mineshaft Handicap over 8.5 furlongs & Gr3 William Donald Schaefer Handicap over 9 furlongs) & 4 placings (including the Gr3 Philip Iselin Handicap over 9 furlongs) from 17 stars for US$1,137,188 earnings; his 114 Beyer Speed Figure in winning the 2006 Gr2 Meadowlands Breeders' Cup Stakes was one of the highest of the year.
