Former Top UK Jockey Greville Starkey Dies

Former leading UK jockey Greville Starkey (who retired from racing in 1989) "died of cancer age 70 at his home outside Newmarket" reported racingpost.com. Among his 1,989 winners Starkey (who was champion apprentice in 1957) won the Gr1 English Derby-Gr1 Irish Derby double on Shirley Heights, Gr1 English Oaks-Gr1 Irish Oaks double on Fair Salinia, Gr1 French Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Star Appeal, Gr1 English 2000 Guineas on Dancing Brave, Gr1 English Oaks on Homeward Bound II & Gr1 English 2000 Guineas on To-Agori-Mou.
