Hulls Calls For "National Race Fields Legislation"
Victorian Minister For Racing Rob Hulls announced he will "call for the Commonwealth to introduce national race fields legislation to provide clarity & certainty for the racing industry" at today's Australasian Racing Ministers' Conference in Sydney. His call follows the release last year of the draft Productivity Commission Report On Gambling which highlighted the inconsistencies between interstate race fields legislation & recommended a national funding model. Hulls said: "A national approach for fees paid by wagering operators to the racing industry would make it clear that anyone using the race fields product has to pay for it. I call on the Commonwealth Government to intervene & put beyond any doubt that any business anywhere in the world that uses our racing product for commercial gain pays an appropriate price for the supply of that product. The French Government has acted on this issue & set the example for the European Union. The Australian Government must act similarly & set the example for the Asian Racing Federation of racing nations, which have been meeting in Sydney this week."
