Monday, 19th April 2010

In the US, former Victorian shuttler Mr Greeley (Gone West-Long Legend, by Reviewer) added a graded-stakes success when 6YO gelding Mr Gruff (Mr Greeley-Ruff, by Clever Trick) scored a 2.25-lengths victory in the US$100,000 Gr3 San Simeon Handicap (6.5 furlongs on all-weather) for 4YOs & up at Santa Anita Park in California to win this race for the 2nd successive year. Mr Gruff (ridden by Joel Rosario for trainer Ron Ellis) defeated 5YO entire Victor's Cry (Street Cry-Short Time, by Clever Trick) & 7YO gelding Ever A Friend (Crafty Friend-Never Is A Promise, by Capote). Mr Gruff (a US$110,000 yearling at the 2005 Keeneland September Sale & later a US$200,000 2YO at the 2006 Barretts Equine March Sale) took his record to 5 wins & 2 runners-up from 8 starts for US$229,680 earnings.
