Aust-Bred Better Than Ever Tops Singapore Ratings

Tuesday, 20th April 2010

In Singapore, unbeaten Australian-bred 3YO gelding Better Than Ever (French Deputy-Songfest, by Unbridled's Song) has leapt up the ratings following his dominant 7-lengths victory in Sunday's Gr2 3YO Classic (1400m) at Kranji. Singapore Turf Club chief handicapper Mike Wanklin announced Better Than Ever  "is now rated on 107" following the victory (his 8th in succession) to see him rated as Singapore's leading 3YO (taking over the top spot from stable-mate Mexican Rose on 102). Wanklin commented: "Better Than Ever is clearly world class. On his win on Sunday, I would say he is an international Gr1 horse. It is hard to say what his international rating would be following the win. Ideally I would like to see him against a horse with an international rating - like a Jolie's Shinju, a Waikato or a Cheyenne Dancer - to get a fix on an international rating. But working on what we have seen of him, I'm sure he would have a figure of 115+ after that win." Better Than Ever (a NZ$80,000 yearling at the 2008 NZB Premier Sale at Karaka) currently boasts 8 wins from 8 starts (also including his previous start the Gr3 3YO Sprint over 1200m on March 26, plus February's Gr3 Three Rings Trophy over 1400m & 2009's Gr3 Steward's Cup over 1400m).
