Boom NZ Colt Time Keeper Heads To Aust

Tuesday, 20th April 2010

In New Zealand, trainer Graeme Nicholson confirmed front-running 3YO colt Time Keeper (Stravinsky-Organdy, by Our Emblem) "is Queensland-bound" following his "drubbing of his older rivals" in Saturday's Gr1 Easter Handicap (1600m) at Ellerslie in Auckland, reported NZ Thoroughbred Marketing. A jubilant Nicholson (who co-trains Time Keeper with Paul Allbon at Te Aroha) declared bluntly after his stable star's latest victory: "How good is he? It's going to take something hellishly good to beat him in Australia, I'll tell you that. I'm blown away." Time Keeper (who became the 1st 3YO since Status in 1990 to win the historic Gr1 Easter Handicap) will head to Brisbane on May 1 with the Gr1 Queensland Derby (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 12 his prime target in Australia. Time Keeper (a NZ$65,000 yearling at the 2009 NZB Carnival Sale) now has 4 wins (also including his previous start a fortnight earlier in the Gr3 The Oaks Stud Manawatu Classic over 2000m at Awapuni on April 3) & 6 placings (including January's Karaka Mile over 1600m at Ellerslie & 2009's Listed Wanganui Guineas over 1340m at Wanganui) from 25 starts.
