Dual Gr1-Winner Zarita Retired

Trainer Pat Hyland confirmed dual Gr1-winning 5YO mare Zarita (Pentire-Gin Player, by Defensive Play) has been retired following her 5th placing in the weekend's Gr2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville in Adelaide. Zarita (a NZ$195,000 yearling at the 2006 NZB Premier Sale at Karaka) recorded 9 wins (including the Gr1 South Australian Derby over 2500m at Morphettville, Gr1 Schweppes Oaks over 2000m at Morphettville, Gr2 Sunline Stakes over 1600m at Moonee Valley, Gr2 Stocks Stakes over 1600m at Moonee Valley, Gr2 Kewney Stakes over 1600m at Flemington, Gr2 Angus Armanasco Stakes over 1600m at Caulfield & Gr2 Wakeful Stakes over 2000m at Flemington) & 7 placings (including the Gr1 Myer Classic over 1600m at Flemington, Gr2 Memsie Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield, Gr2 St George Stakes over 1800m at Caulfield, Gr2 Makybe Diva Stakes over 1600m at Flemington, Gr3 The Vanity over 1400m at Flemington & Listed John Dillon Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield, plus 4th in both the Gr1 Cox Plate & Gr1 Australian Cup) from 33 starts for $1,653,250 earnings. Meanwhile Victoria's Lakeview Resources principal Peter Carrick paid $1.3 million for Zarita's yearling half-sister (by Zabeel) at the recent Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney.
