Darley Retires Quest For Fame From Stud Duty

Thursday, 22nd April 2010

Former Woodlands Stud & subsequently Darley sire & 1990 Gr1 English Derby winner Quest For Fame (Rainbow Quest-Aryenne, by Green Dancer) "has been withdrawn from stud duty at the age of 23," reported racingpost.com. Darley inherited Quest For Fame & absorbed him into its Australian stallion roster after buying Woodlands Stud in 2008. The stallion covered 53 mares last year at a $6,600 fee. Quest For Fame was originally retired to stud in 1993 at Juddmonte Farms in the US & was transferred permanently to Woodlands Stud in NSW in 2000, having previously shuttled there. He has sired 8 Gr1-winners: Del Mar Oaks winner Famous Digger from his stint in America; & the rest from his southern-hemisphere crops - De Beers, Dracula, Perfect Partner, Sarrera, Tributes, Unworldly & Viscount. Quest For Fame is also dam-sire of UK Gr1 Haydock Sprint Cup winner African Rose & dual New Zealand Gr1-winner Tavistock.
