Raven's Pass Emergency Colic Surgery In Ireland

Thursday, 22nd April 2010

In Ireland, multiple Gr1-winning 5YO stallion Raven's Pass (Elusive Quality-Ascutney, by Lord At War), the "US Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic winner who stands under the Darley banner at Kildangan Stud, will be rested from covering duties for at least 6 weeks after undergoing colic surgery" on Tuesday evening, reported racingpost.com. Raven's Pass (whose 1st foals were born this year) had already been sidelined last week with a back problem "but there is not thought to be a long-term threat to his career at stud". Kildangan Stud director Jimmy Hyland confirmed: "The operation went well & we are relieved he is showing positive signs of recovery." Among the mares confirmed in-foal to Raven's Pass this year are Gr1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner Nightime, Wolf Cleugh (dam of Moss Vale), Aliya (dam of Gr1 winner Alandi) & Photophore (a half-sister to Elusive Wave). Raven's Pass covers at a fee of €30,000 (A$45,000) & last year's 1st book of 116 mares included Soviet Song & Petrushka.
