UK Doncaster 2YOs: Average Up 9.4%

Thursday, 22nd April 2010

Overall at the Doncaster Breeze-Up Sale, 122 2YOs sold for £3,247,300 (A$5.39m) which was up 19.2% on last year. The average of £26,617 (A$44,200) was up 9.4% & the median of £19,750 (A$32,800) was up 9.7%. The largest catalogue at this sale in 3 years achieved a clearance rate of 78% (last year 84%) "on a day when the demand for choice lots was as strong as ever, but the lesser horses struggled" summed up racingpost.com. DBS managing director Henry Beeby commented: "There have been some lively bidding duels, particularly for the better lots. While we recognise we still have some way to go to return to the strength of the market that was in evidence pre-autumn 2008, we have been delighted to see a number of serious pin-hooking touches to reward these intrepid speculators. It would be fair to say that the lower end of the market has missed some of the overseas buyers who have enjoyed such success at this sale, but that is entirely due to the flight restrictions as we had made a large number of bookings following our promotional efforts across Europe."
