Tuesday, 27th April 2010

In the UK, Gr1-placed former Yarraman Park shuttler Desert Style (Green Desert-Organza, by High Top) added a group success when Irish-bred 5YO entire Paco Boy (Desert Style-Tappen Zee, by Sandhurst Prince) returned from a 9-months spell to score a 3.25-lengths victory in the £100,000 (A$166,000) Gr2 Sandown Mile (8 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Sandown Park. Paco Boy (ridden by Richard Hughes for trainer Richard Hannon) defeated Irish-bred 7YO entire Pressing (Soviet Star-Rafif, by Riverman) & Irish-bred 4YO entire The Cheka (Xaar-Veiled Beauty, by Royal Academy) to claim this race for the 2nd successive year. Paco Boy was originally an €18,000 (A$27,000) weanling at the 2005 Goffs November Sale, then a €16,000 (A$24,000) yearling at the 2006 Tattersalls Ireland Flat Sale & finally a 30,000 guineas (A$51,000) 2YO at the 2007 Doncaster April Sale. Overall he now boasts 10 wins (also including 2009’s Gr1 Queen Anne Stakes over 8 furlongs at Royal Ascot & Gr2 Sandown Mile over 8 furlongs at Sandown Park, plus 2008's French Gr1 Prix de la Foret over 1400m at Longchamp, UK Gr2 Betfair Cup-Lennox Stakes over 7 furlongs at Goodwood, UK Gr2 Hungerford Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newbury, UK Gr3 Greenham Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newbury & UK Listed Spring Cup over 7 furlongs at Lingfield Park) & 2 placings (in 2009’s Gr1 Sussex Stakes over 8 furlongs at Goodwood & 2008's French Gr1 Prix Du Moulin over 1600m at Longchamp) from 17 starts for £702,868 (A$1.167m) earnings.
