Happy Hippy Wins James Carr Stakes

European champion 4-time Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) added a black-type success (& 8th individual stakes-winner) when daughter Happy Hippy (Shamardal-Springburn, by Soviet Lad) scored a half-head victory in the $100,000 Listed James Carr Stakes (1400m) for 3YO fillies at Randwick. Happy Hippy (ridden by Stathi Katsidis for trainer John Thompson) defeated favourite Shannara (Octagonal-Shadea, by Straight Strike) & So Anyway (General Nediym-Addictive, by Flying Spur). Happy Hippy (a $32,000 yearling consigned by Edinglassie Stud at the 2007 Inglis Winter Mixed Sale) 2 wins & 5 placings (including last start’s Listed P.J.Bell Stakes over 1200m at Randwick on April 10, plus March’s Gr2 Yallambee Classic over 1200m at Morphettville & February’s Listed Redelva Stakes over 1000m at Morphettville, as well as 2009’s Listed Snowhite Stakes over 1400m at Sandown & Listed Brian Crowley Stakes over 1200m at Randwick) from 12 starts for $137,535 earnings.
