Jessicabeel Wins Gr1 Sydney Cup

On the Australian track over the Anzac Day holiday weekend, NZ Cambridge Stud's multiple champion sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram-Lady Giselle, by Nureyev) added a Gr1 triumph (& 41st Gr1-winner) when favoured 4YO mare Jessicabeel (Zabeel-More Diamonds, by Straight Strike) came from last into the straight to score a 0.75-length victory in the $400,000 Gr1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Royal Randwick. Jessicabeel (ridden by Craig Newitt for trainer John O'Shea) defeated 5YO mare Divine Rebel (Don Eduardo-It's My Sin, by Success Express) & 4YO gelding Harris Tweed (Montjeu-Sally, by Prized). Jessicabeel (a NZ$220,000 yearling at the 2007 NZB Premier Sale at Karaka) now has 5 wins (also including last start’s Gr2 Chairman's Handicap over 2600m at Randwick on April 10) & 2 placings (in both March’s Listed Aspiration Handicap over 1600m at Randwick & Listed Epona Stakes over 1900m at Rosehill) from 13 starts for $464,900 earnings.
