King Cugat Adds US Gr3

In the US, Widden Stud shuttler King Cugat (Kingmambo-Tricky Game, by Majestic Light) added a graded-stakes success when 5YO gelding Mambo Meister (King Cugat-Bleuslittlesecret, by Desert Secret) scored by a head in the US$100,000 Gr3 Miami Mile Handicap (8 furlongs on turf) at Calder in Florida. Mambo Meister (ridden by Manoel Cruz for trainer Philip Gleaves) defeated front-running 4YO ridgling Pinckney Hill (A.P.Indy-Jemima, by Owington) & 6YO entire Pleasant Strike (Smart Strike-Colonella, by Pleasant Colony). Mambo Meister took his record to 8 wins (also including 2009’s Gr3 Spend A Buck Handicap over 8.5 furlongs at Calder, Listed Blazing Sword Stakes over 8 furlongs at Calder & Listed Big Bubble Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Calder) & 9 placings (including January’s Gr3 Fort Lauderdale Stakes over 8 furlongs at Gulfstream Park, plus runner-up in both 2009’s Gr2 Fourstardave Handicap over 8.5 furlongs at Saratoga & April's Gr3 Miami Mile Handicap over 8 furlongs at Calder) from 27 starts for US$421,645 earnings.
