Road To Rock Wins Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes

Coolmore stallion & Australian champion sire of the last 2 seasons Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek, by Star Way) added a Gr1 triumph when favoured 5YO entire Road To Rock (Encosta de Lago-Trewornan, by Midyan) scored a 2-lengths victory in the $350,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick. Road To Rock (ridden by Damien Oliver for trainer Anthony Cummings) defeated 5YO gelding Triple Honour (Honours List-Myrrh, by Nassipour) & 3YO colt Monaco Consul (High Chaparral-Argante, by Star Way). Road To Rock (a $100,000 yearling consigned by Willow Park at the 2006 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) now has 6 wins (also including 2009’s Gr1 Arrowfield Stud George Main Stakes over 1600m at Royal Randwick & Listed Sportingbet Gold Cup over 2000m at Caulfield, plus 2008's Listed Carbine Club Stakes over 1600m at Randwick) & 9 placings (including last start’s Gr1 Doncaster Mile over 1600m at Randwick on April 24, plus February’s Gr3 Carlyon Cup over 1400m at Caulfield, as well as 2009’s Gr1 Arrrowfield Stud Epsom Handicap over 1600m at Randwick) from 34 starts for $1,153,350 earnings.
