Black Piranha Disqualified From Gr2 Canterbury Stakes

Monday, 3rd May 2010

Racing NSW stewards disqualified 6YO gelding Black Piranha (Clang-Jazztrack, by Distinctly North) from his 2nd-placing in March's Gr2 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill & commenced an inquiry into a pre-race blood sample which showed traces of "prohibited substances phenylbutazone & oxyphenbutazone. The inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed "whereby a detailed study of the available closed circuit television coverage from within the stable of trainer Con Karakatsanis can be conducted"; the stewards also confirmed they "will seek to interview an employee of the Karakatsanis stable who left that employment earlier this month".
