Monday, 3rd May 2010

Also in the US, last year's runner-up for the Eclipse Award as champion juvenile filly Blind Luck (Pollard's Vision-Lucky One, by Best Of Luck) motored home from last-in-running & 5-wide on the home-turn to snatch a head-bobbing victory by a nose in the US$500,000 Gr1 Kentucky Oaks (9 furlongs) for 3YO fillies at Churchill Downs. Favourite Blind Luck (ridden by Rafael Bejarano for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer) defeated Evening Jewel (Northern Afleet-Jewel Of The Night, by Giant's Causeway) & front-running Tidal Pool (Yankee Gentleman-Sea Rhythm, by Deputy Minister). Blind Luck (a US$11,000 yearling at the 2008 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Sale) took her record to 7 wins (also including April's Gr2 Fantasy Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Oaklawn Park & February's Gr1 Las Virgenes Stakes over 8 furlongs at Santa Anita, plus 2009's Gr1 Hollywood Starlet Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Hollywood Park & Gr1 Oak Leaf Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Santa Anita) & 3 placings (including March's Gr1 Santa Anita Oaks over 8.5 furlongs, plus 2009's Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies over 8.5 furlongs at Santa Anita & Gr1 Darley Debutante Stakes over 7 furlongs at Del Mar) from 10 starts for US$1,398,712 earnings.
