Monday, 3rd May 2010

In South Africa, the colt Irish Flame (Dynasty-Clock The Rock, by Flaming Rock) blitzed his rivals by 9.5-lengths in the R$1.5 million (A$215,000) Gr1 South African Derby (2450m) for 3YOs at Turffontein. Irish Flame (ridden by Kevin Shea for trainer Mike de Kock) defeated the geldings Pierre Jourdan (Parade Leader-Vin Fizz, by Qui Danzig) & Service Ace (Fort Wood-Beltel, by Bush Telegraph). Irish Flame now has 4 wins (also including January's Listed Politician Stakes over 1800m at Kenilworth) & a placing (in March's Gr1 SA Classic over 1800m at Turffontein) from 8 starts. The victory also marked trainer Mike de Kock's 2,000th career winner.
