Monday, 3rd May 2010

In the UK, triple Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Dubawi (Dubai Millennium-Zomaradah, by Deploy) added a Gr1 triumph when unbeaten French-trained colt Makfi (Dubawi-Dhelaal, by Green Desert) scored an upset 1.25-lengths victory at 33-1 in the £400,000 (A$664,000) Gr1 2000 Guineas (8 furlongs) for 3YOs at Newmarket. Makfi (ridden by Christophe-Patrice Lemaire for trainer Mikel Delzangles) defeated Irish-bred colts Dick Turpin (Arakan-Merrily, by Sharrood) & Canford Cliffs (Tagula-Mrs Marsh, by Marju). Makfi was a 26,000 guineas (A$44,000) 2YO at the 2009 Tattersalls Autumn Horses-In-Training Sale; overall he now has 3 wins (also including last start's French Gr3 Prix Djebel over 1400m at Maisons-Laffitte in April 8) from 3 starts for £274,129 (A$452,000) earnings.
