Velocitea Wins Gr1 The Goodwood

Monday, 3rd May 2010

NZ Windsor Park Stud's 7-time NZ champion sire Volksraad (Green Desert-Celtic Assembly, by Secretariat) added a Gr1 triumph when 4YO mare Velocitea (Volksraad-Cat Shmea, by Felix The Cat) scored by a long-neck in yesterday's $300,000 Gr1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville. Velocitea (ridden by Craig Newitt for trainer Mick Price) defeated favoured & top-weighted 4YO gelding Catapulted (Catbird-Siren Miss, by Umatilla) & fellow 4YO mare Very Discreet (Exceed And Excel-She's Discreet, by Euclase). Velocitea now has 7 wins (also including both February's Gr3 Hyderabad Race Club Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield & Listed JRA Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield, plus 2009's Gr3 How Now Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield) & 6 placings (including last start's Gr1 Robert Sangster Stakes over 1200m at Morphettville on March 20, plus 2009's Listed Northwood Plume Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield & 2008's NZ Listed Champagne Stakes over 1200m at Riccarton Park) from 18 starts for $551,920 earnings.
