NZB National Day-1: NZ$220k Encosta De Lago Colt

Tuesday, 4th May 2010

Bruce & Maureen Harvey of Ascot Farm paid top price of NZ$220,000 for a colt by Coolmore-based stallion & Australian Champion Sire of the last 2 seasons Encosta de Lago (the 4th foal out of winning 10-year-old Irish-bred Danehill mare Breeze Hill) during yesterday's opening weanling section (the initial 300 of 463 weanlings catalogued) at the 3-day NZB National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale at Karaka outside Auckland. The colt was consigned by Curraghmore Stud as agent & his dam Breeze Hill is: a full-sister to UK dual-winner & Gr2-placed Hill Country; a 3/4-sister to UK stakes-winner Sumora & stakes-placed Summerland; & a half-sister to English Derby victor & triple Gr1-winner Dr Devious, Japanese Gr1-winner Shinko King, Irish Gr3-winner Archway, UK Gr3-winner Royal Court & unraced Rose Of Suzuka (dam of Japanese Gr1-winner Suzuka Phoenix). Bruce Harvey confirmed the colt has been pin-hooked for next January's NZB National Yearling Sales at Karaka, noting: "It's not often that you get a horse that with sort of pedigree coming up at the weanling sale here, so we were eager to get him. He's a lovely horse & is a promising addition to our yearling draft."
