Barathea Adds UK Black-Type

Monday, 10th May 2010

In the UK, former Widden Stud shuttler Barathea (Sadler's Wells-Brocade, by Habitat) added a black-type success when Irish-bred 6YO mare Barshiba (Barathea-Dashiba, by Dashing Blade) returned from a 7-months spell to score a half-length victory in the £40,000 (A$66,000) Listed Buckhounds Stakes (12 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Ascot. Barshiba (ridden by Hayley Turner for trainer David Elsworth) defeated 5YO entire Duncan (Dalakhani-Dolores, by Danehill) who won this race last year & 5YO mare Starfala (Galileo-Farfala, by Linamix). Barshiba took her overall record to 6 wins (also including 2009's Gr2 Lancashire Oaks over 12 furlongs at Haydock & Listed Aphrodite Stakes over 12 furlongs at Newmarket, plus 2008's Listed Severals Stakes over 10 furlongs at Newmarket & 2007's Listed Sandringham Stakes over 8 furlongs at Royal Ascot) & 6 placings (including 2008's Gr2 Summer Smile over 8 furlongs at Ascot, Gr3 Dahlia Stakes over 9 furlongs at Newmarket & Listed Valiant Stakes over 8 furlongs at Ascot, plus 2007's Listed Distaff Stakes over 8 furlongs at Sandown Park) from 26 starts for £266,135 (A$439,000) earnings.
