Bruce Almighty Wins NZ Canterbury Gold Cup

In New Zealand, Chequers Stud sire Deputy Governor (Master Willie-Regent Miss, by Vice Regent) added a group success when 6YO gelding Bruce Almighty (Deputy Governor-Striking Angel, by Straight Strike) scored a 1.5-lengths victory in the NZ$100,000 weight-for-age Gr3 Canterbury Gold Cup (2000m) at Riccarton Park. Bruce Almighty (ridden by Robert Hannam for trainer Stuart Manning) defeated 6YO mare Soph (Lord Ballina-Our Sophie, by Kaapstad) & fellow 6YO gelding Shelby (His Royal Highness-Stick, by Touching Wood). Bruce Almighty now has 12 wins (also including February's Gr3 Taranaki Cup over 2000m at New Plymouth & both January's Greymouth Cup & Gore Cup) & 10 placings (including April's Listed Riverton Cup over 2147m & 2009's Listed Rangitikei Gold Cup over 1600m at Awapuni) from 55 starts for NZ$235,863 earnings.
