Monday, 10th May 2010

In Japan yesterday, former Arrowfield Stud shuttler Fuji Kiseki (Sunday Silence-Millracer, by Le Fabuleux) added a Gr1 triumph when favoured colt Danon Chantilly (Fuji Kiseki-Chansonnette, by Mark Of Esteem) set a new track & "JRA mile" record by clocking a sizzling 1min 31.4sec in scoring a 1.5-lengths victory in the ¥180.78 million (A$2.06m) Gr1 NHK Mile Cup (1600m) at Tokyo. Danon Chantilly (ridden by Katsumi Ando for trainer Kunihide Matsuda) defeated fellow colts Daiwa Barbarian (Manhattan Cafe-Phoenix Bird, by Kingmambo) & L'Ile D'Aval (Agnes Tachyon-Veil Of Avalon, by Thunder Gulch). Danon Chantilly was a ¥27.5 million (A$280,000) yearling at the 2008 Japan July Sale. Previously this season Danon Chantilly also won March's Gr3 Mainichi Hai (1800m) at Hanshin, as well as placing in both February's Gr3 Kyodo News Service Hai (1800m) at Tokyo & 2009's Listed Hai Nisai Stakes (2000m) at Hanshin. Overall he now has 3 wins & 2 placings from 5 starts. His time of 1min 31.4sec cut 0.6sec off the previous record over Tokyo's 1600m (set by Millennium Bio in 2003) & also cut 0.1sec off the overall record over the mile distance in Japan racing history (previously set by Zenno El Cid at Nakayama Racecourse in 2001).
