Darely Sire Lucky Story Dies In UK Paddock Aged 9
The 9YO Darley stallion Lucky Story (Kris S-Spring Flight, by Miswaki) "was found dead in his paddock at Tweenhills Stud in Gloucestershire" in England, reported racingpost.com. Lucky Story (who sired last season's Gr1-winning sprinter Art Connoisseur in his 1st-crop) had stood at Tweenhills Stud on behalf of Darley since his retirement to stud in 2005. Lucky Story (bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farms) was a full-brother to Gr1-winning former Widden Stud shuttler Dr Fong & sold for US$95,000 as a yearling; he subsequently won 4 of his 9 starts, with juvenile victories in both the Gr2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood & Gr2 Champagne Stakes, plus subsequent runner-up efforts (after returning from injury) in both the Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes & Gr3 Sovereign Stakes as a 3YO. In 2008, Lucky Story won the Tattersalls Silver Salver as leading British-based 1st-season Flat sire.
