Arqana 2YOs: $435k Shirocco Colt
In the French auction ring, Citywest's Fiona Shaw (acting on behalf of owner Earl Macke) paid top price (& new sale record) of €300,000 (A$435,000) for a colt from the 1st-crop of triple Gr1-winning Darley stallion Shirocco (out of Pursuit Of Love mare Basse Besogne) at the 1-day Arqana 2YO Breeze-Up Sale at Saint-Cloud. The colt (consigned from Yeomanstown Stud) was a grandson of French Gr1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winner Baiser Vole & had previously sold for €85,000 (A$123,000) at the 2009 Arqana October Sale. Shaw told racingpost.com: "He was just a beautiful horse. He did a very nice breeze & I loved his pedigree. Earl Macke has 2 horses in France at the moment - one with Jonathan Pease & another with Jean-Claude Rouget - and this one will probably go to Jonathan."
