Buena Vista Wins Japan Gr1 Victoria Mile

In Japan yesterday, 4YO mare Buena Vista (Special Week-Biwa Heidi, by Caerleon) scored by a neck in the ¥177.46 million (A$2.023m) Gr1 Victoria Mile (1600m) for mares 4YO & up at Tokyo. Buena Vista (ridden by Norihiro Yokoyama for trainer Hiroyoshi Matsuda) defeated fellow 4YO mare Hikaru Amaranthus (Agnes Tachyon-Star Mie, by A.P.Indy) & 6YO mare Nishino Blue Moon (Tanino Gimlet-Capricciosa, by Alzao). Buena Vista now has 7 wins (4 Gr1 triumphs) from 13 starts for ¥750,359,700 (A$8.554m) earnings. Previously in 2010 Buena Vista finished runner-up in March's Gr1 Dubai Sheema Classic (2400m) at Meydan & won January's Japanese Gr2 Kyoto Kinen (2200m) at Kyoto. And during 2009 she won the Gr1 Yushun Himba-Japanese Oaks (2400m) at Tokyo, Gr1 Oka Sho-1000 Guineas (1600m) at Hanshin & Gr1 Tulip Sho (1600m) at Hanshin, as well as placing in each of the Gr1 Arima Kinen (2500m) against older horses at Nakayama, Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup (2200m) against older horses at Kyoto, Gr1 Shuka Sho (2000m) at Kyoto & Gr2 Sapporo Kinen (2000m) against older horses at Sapporo. As a juvenile in 2008 Buena Vista also won the Listed Hanshin Juvenile Fillies (1600m) at Hanshin.
