Lizard's Desire Wins Singapore Gr1 International Cup

In Singapore yesterday, Sheikh Mohammed's South African-bred 4YO gelding Lizard's Desire (Lizard Island-Annsfield, by Northfields) scored a half-length victory in the S$3 million (A$2.4m) Gr1 Singapore Airlines International Cup (2000m) at Kranji. Lizard's Desire (ridden by Kevin Shea for trainer Mike De Kock) defeated Brazilian-bred & French-trained 6YO entire Gloria De Campeao (Impression-Audacity, by Clackson) & UK-bred 6YO entire Al Shemali (Medicean-Bathilde, by Generous). Last year Lizard's Desire was runner-up in South Africa's Gr2 Gold Circle Derby (2400m) at Clairwood. Lizard's Desire is by Australian-bred stallion Lizard Island (Lure-Prawn Cocktail, Artichoke) who topped the 1998 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale at $800,000 before heading to stud in South Africa.
