In the US, last year's Eclipse Award winner as Champion 2YO Male & now 3YO colt Lookin At Lucky (Smart Strike-Private Feeling, by Belong To Me) scored a 0.75-length victory before 95,760 fans in the 2nd leg of the US 3YO Triple Crown, the US$1 million Gr1 Preakness Stakes (9.5 furlongs) for 3YOs at Pimlico in Maryland. Lookin At Lucky (ridden by Martin Garcia for trainer Bob Baffert) defeated fellow colts First Dude (Stephen Got Even-Run Sarah Run, by Smart Strike) & Jackson Bend (Hear No Evil-Sexy Stockings, by Tabasco Cat). Kentucky-bred Lookin At Lucky (a US$475,000 2YO at the 2009 Keeneland April Sale) now has 7 wins (also including March's Gr2 Rebel Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Oaklawn Park, plus 2009's Gr1 Norfolk Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Santa Anita, Gr1 Del Mar Futurity over 7 furlongs & Gr2 Best Pal Stakes over 6.5 furlongs at Del Mar) & 2 placings (in April's Gr1 Santa Anita Derby over 9 furlongs & 2009's Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile over 8.5 furlongs at Santa Anita) from 10 starts for US$2,113,000 earnings.
