Lope De Vega Wins French Gr1 Poulains-2000 Guineas

In France overnight, European champion 4-time Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) added a Gr1 triumph when German-bred colt Lope De Vega (Shamardal-Lady Vettori, by Vettori) scored a half-length victory in the €450,000 (A$653,000) Gr1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains (1600m) for 3YO males at Longchamp in Paris. Lope De Vega (ridden by Maxime Guyon for trainer Andre Fabre) defeated Irish-bred colt Dick Turpin (Arakan-Merrily, by Sharrood) & fellow colt Shamalgan (Footstepsinthesand-Genevale, by Unfuwain). Last month Lope De Vega finished 3rd in France's Gr3 Prix De Fontainbleau (1600m) at Longchamp & overall now has 3 wins & a placing from 5 starts.
