Great Southern Weanling Day 2: Overall Average Up 22%
At the conclusion of Day-2 of the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale in Melbourne yesterday, the overall average ($10,731) was up 22% over last year. The aggregate rose 61% to $3,412,750 from 318 weanlings sold, and the sale media of $5,000 was more than double that of 2009. "In some respects, the sale was even stronger today, considering the outstanding clearance rate and we have to regard the weanling session as a very successful sale," Inglis Director Peter Heagney commented. "Obviously we had some pinhookers here, but I think there are also a lot of people who like to buy these horses now and wait a little longer, rather than paying the extra premium that comes at a yearling sale. Again, we had buyers from every state in Australia and the New Zealand contingent remained strong today." The Inglis Great Southern Bloodstock Sale commences today.
