Maryland 2YOs:  Average Up 14%

Wednesday, 19th May 2010

The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training in Maryland concluded with significant increases over 2009. According to bloodhorse.com "the number of horses sold (273) and gross revenue (US$13,099,500) increased 7.9% and 23%, respectively, from a year ago". In addition, the "average price (US$47,984) & median price (US$27,000) rose 14%, and 8%, respectively." The buy-back rate was a low 12.5%, down markedly from 21.2% in 2009. Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning commented after the sale: "It was a very strong sale [and] there were bidders at every level. It was the first time in quite some time that I've seen the depth of buyers that participated today, and the buy-back rate, which was indicative of that, was phenomenal. Horses traded in the US$10,000 range, the US$50,000 range, and the $US100,000 range, and the big money was there for the right horses, too. It was a very vibrant market. It felt good leading up to the sale, and it felt even better today."
