1st Winner For US Freshman Sire Bellamy Road

Friday, 21st May 2010

US Gr1-winning 8YO freshman stallion Bellamy Road (Concerto-Hurry Home Hillary, by Deputed Testamony) recorded his 1st winner with his 1st starter when 2YO filly Bella Palooza (Bellamy Road-Steal The Show, by Cat Thief) scored on debut over 4.5 furlongs on all-weather at Hollywood Park in California for trainer Doug O’Neill. Bella Palooza was a US$32,000 2YO at this year’s Barretts Equine March Sale. Her sire Bellamy Road (who stands for US$10,000 at Pauls Mill in Kentucky & has 93 2YOs in his 1st-crop) won the 2005 Gr1 Wood Memorial Stakes (by 17.5-lengths while equaling an Aqueduct track record of 1min 47.16sec for 9 furlongs); he duly started favourite in the 2005 Gr1 Kentucky Derby but sustained a splint injury & finished 7th; in his only subsequent start, he returned from a 4-month spell to finish runner-up in the Gr1 Travers Stakes only to be sidelined again with splint & suspensory injuries. Overall Bellamy Road retired with 4 wins (also including the 2004 Gr3 Cradle Stakes) from 7 starts & US$811,400 earnings.
