Bill Waterhouse Retiring At 88

Friday, 21st May 2010

Veteran Sydney bookmaker Bill Waterhouse “once regarded as the biggest bookmaker of them all, will call the odds for the last time at the 150th anniversary of racing at Royal Randwick on Saturday week (May 29),” reported The Daily Telegraph. Waterhouse confirmed last night: “I don't really want to retire, I feel like I could go on, but I am 88. I've talked it over with Robbie (his son) & the time is right to finish now. I've been working as a bookmaker since I was 18, so it has been my life. I still enjoy going to the races, but everything comes to an end one day.” Waterhouse won't be fielding at Rosehill Gardens tomorrow, but said he will take the stand for the final time at Randwick next week.
