Form Analyst To Assist Nikolic Legal Team
Jockey Dan Nikolic “will meet his legal team next week to begin his defence of 9 charges laid by Racing Victoria stewards,” reported The Herald-Sun. The charges will be heard by Victoria’s Racing Appeals & Disciplinary Board on June 21 & Nikolic's lawyer Paul O'Sullivan confirmed: “I will be co-ordinating a conference in Melbourne late next week with Dan to get his instructions. That gives us ample time. I have no complaints with the hearing date.” Form analyst Ray Thompson “will offer O'Sullivan his views in a dossier of Nikolic's 10 rides investigated by stewards”. Though stewards did not lay any charges directly relating to his rides, the 4 charges of “improper practice & conduct prejudicial to racing” are linked to several rides from October 1 to February 13. (The 10 rides investigated were from November 13 to February 11.) Thompson said “only Nikolic's action in looking around so far at the 500m on Finishing Card at Mornington on January 8 raised a question mark; but he pointed out the horse had been bumped 4 times between the 800m & 600m, a fact verified in the stewards' report”. Thompson “asserted Nikolic did nothing wrong in his rides on Rachine, Midnight Wine, Buddy Amazing, Folichonne, Ruby Slippers, Imprudence, Summarise, Prizum & Retrieve”. Thompson added he had “never spoken to Nikolic & his thoughts were merely observations of the merit of his rides”.
