Canford Cliffs Wins Irish Gr1 2000 Guineas

In Ireland, favoured colt Canford Cliffs (Tagula-Mrs Marsh, by Marju) came from back in the field to score a decisive 3-lengths victory in the €325,000 (A$488,000) Gr1 Irish 2000 Guineas (8 furlongs) for 3YOs at The Curragh. Canford Cliffs (ridden by Richard Hughes for trainer Richard Hannon) defeated US-bred colts Free Judgement (Vindication-South Bay Cove, by Fusaichi Pegasus) & Viscount Nelson (Giant's Causeway-Imagine, by Sadler's Wells). Canford Cliffs was a €46,000 (A$69,000) weanling at the 2007 Goffs November Sale & later a £50,000 (A$86,000) yearling at the 2008 Doncaster August Sale. Overall he now has 3 wins (also including 2009's UK Gr2 Coventry Stakes over 6 furlongs at Royal Ascot) & 3 placings (in last start's UK Gr1 2000 Guineas over 8 furlongs at Newmarket on May 1 & April's Gr3 Greenham Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newbury, plus 2009's French Gr1 Prix Morny over 1200m at Deauville) from 6 starts for €369,827 (A$555,000) earnings.
