Cape Cross Adds US Gr2

Monday, 24th May 2010

In the US, former Darley shuttler Cape Cross (Green Desert-Park Appeal, by Ahonoora) added a graded-stakes success when UK-bred 5YO mare Treat Gently (Cape Cross-Kid Gloves, by In The Wings) scored a 4.5-lengths victory in the US$150,000 Gr2 Sheepshead Bay Handicap (11 furlongs) for fillies & mares at Belmont Park in New York. Treat Gently (ridden by Kent Desormeaux for trainer Bill Mott) defeated 7YO mare Nehantic Kat (Tomorrows Cat-Knightly Thunder, by Thunder Puddles) & Brazilian-bred 5YO mare Bubbly Jane (Yagli-Built To Last, by Knifebox). Treat Gently took her record to 4 wins (also including 2008's French Gr2 Prix de Malleret over 2400m at Saint-Cloud) & 4 runners-up (in January's Gr2 San Gorgonio Handicap over 9 furlongs at Santa Anita, plus 2008's French Gr1 Prix Vermeille over 2400m at Longchamp, French Gr2 Prix De La Nonette over 2000m at Deauville & French Gr3 Prix De Royaumont over 2400m at Chantilly) from 13 starts for US$362,403 earnings.
