Fame And Glory Wins Irish Gr1 Tatts Gold Cup
On the same card in Ireland overnight, dual-Derby winning Coolmore sire & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a Gr1 triumph when UK-bred 4YO entire & last year's Gr1 Irish Derby winner Fame And Glory (Montjeu-Gryada, by Shirley Heights) blitzed his rivals by 7-lengths in the €225,000 (A$338,000) G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup (10.5 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at The Curragh. Favourite Fame And Glory (ridden by Johnny Murtagh for trainer Aidan O'Brien) defeated fellow 4YO entire Recharge (Cape Cross-Rebelline, by Robellino) & 5YO mare Chinese White (Dalakhani-Chiang Mai, by Sadler's Wells). At his previous start, Fame And Glory similarly blitzed his rivals by 5-lengths in Ireland's Gr3 Mooresbridge Stakes (10 furlongs) at The Curragh on May 3, after beginning his 2010 campaign with a 3rd-placing in April's Irish Listed Alleged Stakes (10 furlongs) at The Curragh. Fame And Glory was a 190,000 guineas (A$333,000) foal at the UK Tattersalls 2006 December Sale; last year he won the Gr1 Irish Derby (12 furlongs) at The Curragh, Irish Gr2 Derby Trial Stakes (10 furlongs) at Leopardstown & Irish Gr3 Ballysax Stakes (10 furlongs) at Leopardstown, as well as finishing runner-up (to champion Sea The Stars) in both the Gr1 English Derby (12 furlongs) at Epsom Downs & Irish Gr1 Champion Stakes (10 furlongs) at Leopardstown. And as a 2YO in 2008 he won France's Gr1 Criterium De Saint-Cloud (2000m).
