US Sire & Former Shuttler Marquetry Pensioned At 23
Former Vinery shuttler Marquetry (Conquistador Cielo-Regent's Walk, by Vice Regent) whose star gallopers include US champion sprinters Artax (1999) & Squirtle (2001) "has been pensioned from stud duty at age 23 because of declining fertility," reported bloodhorse.com. He was standing his 1st year in Florida at Stonewall Farm Ocala (& had covered 38 mares). Marquetry began his stallion career at Vinery in Kentucky, then moved to Hill 'n' Dale in 2005 after 11 seasons, before shifting again to Stonewall Farm Stallions in Kentucky. Overall he boasts 35 stakes-winners (plus 45 stakes-placed runners) for US$37.3 million progeny earnings; in addition, as a broodmare sire he is represented by Gr1-winner Presious Passion. On the track, Marquetry (who raced for Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms) notched 3 Gr1 triumphs (including the 1991 Gr1 Hollywood Gold Cup) & retired with US$2,857,886 earnings.
