Wednesday, 26th May 2010

The Australian Jockey Club will mark 150 years of horse racing at Royal Randwick on Saturday with a "free entry" race meeting. The AJC ran its 1st Royal Randwick meeting over 3 days (starting on Tuesday 29 May 1860) & 30,000 people attended. In the last race on the 1st day, legendary stayer Archer (then a 3YO) finished well back in a contest over 1.5 miles; he went on to win both the 1860 & 1861 Melbourne Cups.
