Dubai World Cup Winner Confirmed For Cox Plate
Racing Victoria announced owner Stefan Friborg has confirmed his 6YO entire Gloria De Campeao (Impression-Audacity, by Clackson) who won international racing's richest prize with victory in March's US$10 million Gr1 Dubai World Cup (2000m) at Meydan will contest this year's Gr1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley in Melbourne on October 23. Gloria De Campeao also finished runner-up in the 2009 Dubai World Cup & RV general manager racing operations Leigh Jordon declared: "We are thrilled that such a significant owner as Stefan Friborg has seen fit to target the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival with his champion galloper. Gloria De Campeao will be one of the best credentialed horses ever to compete in Australia & his presence in the 2010 Cox Plate will take Australia's weight-for-age championship to an unprecedented level. In addition, the horse's trainer Pascal Bary has prepared Gr1 winners in 6 countries (including 3 Breeders Cup wins in the US), so we're equally pleased to welcome a trainer of his stature to Australia for the 1st time." Moonee Valley Race Club chairman Bob Scarborough emphasised the importance of the club's International Promotion Fund (which offers a guaranteed $100,000 return for any internationally-trained starter in the Cox Plate) & noted: "The Club has worked hard to increase the international appeal of our great race through initiatives such as the IPF & this is an exciting reward for those efforts." Brazilian-bred entire Gloria De Campeao (trained in France by Bary) has been unplaced just once in 8 starts since February 2009. At his most recent appearance he finished a narrow runner-up in this month's Gr1 Singapore International Cup (2000m) at Kranji, after winning the same race in 2009. Previously Gloria De Campeao also won January's UAE Gr3 Maktoum Challenge Round 1 (1600m) at Meydan, plus 2007's Brazil Gr2 Grande Premio Gervasio Seabra (1600m) at Gavea & Brazil Gr3 Grande Premio Presidente Antonio De Assumpcao Netto (1600m) at Cidade Jardim, as well as placing in March's UAE Gr2 Maktoum Challenge Round 3 (2000m) at Meydan, plus both 2008's Gr2 Maktoum Challenge Round 3 (2000m) at Nad Al Sheba & Gr3 Maktoum Challenge Round 1 (1600m) at Nad Al Sheba, in addition to both 2007's Brazil Gr1 Grande Premio Presidente De Republica (1600m) at Gavea & Brazil Gr1 Grande Premio Presidente Da Republica (1600m) at Cidade Jardim) for over US$9 million earnings.
