Godolphin Stayer Kite Wood On Melb Cup Radar

Thursday, 27th May 2010

Meanwhile Racing Victoria's general manager racing operations Leigh Jordon noted: "All the signs are positive that Godolphin will again target the Spring Racing Carnival in the hope of securing that elusive Melbourne Cup victory (they have finished runner-up 3 times). Which horses remains a mystery, but we were very taken with the win of Kite Wood in a Gr2 race at Longchamp in France last weekend. The race was over 3100m, he gave a great front-running display & won in the manner of a horse that would be suited to the Melbourne Cup." Irish-bred 4YO entire Kite Wood (Galileo-Kite Mark, by Mark Of Esteem) will now be set for the UK Gr1 Ascot Gold Cup (4000m) on June 17 (day 3 of the Royal Ascot Carnival) & Jordon added: "We'll be watching that race with great interest to see how Kite Wood & several other quality stayers perform." Last season Kite Wood won the UK Gr3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes (13.5 furlongs) at Newbury & Listed Bahrain Trophy (13 furlongs) at Newmarket, as well as placing in the UK Gr1 St Leger Stakes (14 furlongs) at Doncaster; & in 2008 he won the UK Gr3 Autumn Stakes (8 furlongs) at Ascot.
