Star US Broodmare La Affirmed Euthanased Aged 27

In Pennsylvaina, Elizabeth Moran's star Brushwood Farm-based broodmare La Affirmed (Affirmed-La Mesa, by Round Table) "was euthanased because of complications from the infirmities of old age" at 27, reported bloodhorse.com. La Affirmed (a US$1.9 million broodmare at the 1996 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale & a half-sister to champion Outstandingly with a female family which traced to La Troienne) was the dam of multiple Gr3-winning sire Bernstein & grand-dam of Gr1-winning sire Sky Mesa. Overall she produced 16 foals, also including: multiple stakes-winner Caress (dam of Sky Mesa & Gr1-placed Golden Velvet); stakes-winning & Gr1-placed Country Cat; & Gr2-winner & Gr1-placed Della Francesca. Among her foals, Bernstein sold as a weanling for US$925,000 at the 1997 Keeneland November Sale; a yearling colt by Storm Cat named Alajwad sold for US$5.5 million at the 2001 Keeneland September Sale; another colt by Storm Cat sold for US$925,000 at the 2002 Keeneland September Sale: & a filly by Storm Cat sold for US$1.5 million at the 2005 Keeneland September Sale.
