Tuesday, 1st June 2010

The 1st Northern Hemisphere foal from Australian Gr1-winner Porto Roca (Barathea-Antelliere, by Salieri) notched his 4th win since his juvenile debut last November when Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum's Darley-bred 3YO colt Monterosso (Dubawi-Porto Roca, by Barathea) scored by 3.75-lengths over 10 furlongs at Newmarket in England for trainer Mark Johnston. Monterosso took his record to 4 wins & 2 runners-up from 7 starts for £33,956 (A$58,000) earnings. His Australian-bred dam Porto Roca (a half-sister to NZ Gr1-winner Bluebird The Word) won Australia's Gr1 Coolmore Classic & Gr3 Tattersalls Winter Stakes (now a Gr1), as well as placing in the Gr1 Futurity Stakes, Gr1 Australasian Oaks & Gr1 Eat Well Live Well Cup. She had 4 foals in Australia (3 winners) before Darley bought her & sent her to Europe in late 2005.
