12th Winner For Freshman Sire Stratum

Thursday, 3rd June 2010

Widden Stud's Gr1 Golden Slipper-winning 7YO freshman sire Stratum (Redoute's Choice-Bourgeois, by Luskin Star) recorded his 12th 1st-crop winner (11 in Australia & 1 in New Zealand) when 2YO colt Pellizotti (Stratum-Red Labelle, by Blevic) led all-the-way to score over 1030m at Doomben in Brisbane yesterday for trainer Lee Freedman. Pellizotti (a $425,000 yearling consigned by Widden at the 2009 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) was the highest-priced yearling from Stratum's 1st-crop; he was bred by South Australia's Kambula Stud & is a half-brother to stakes-winning & dual stakes-placed 4YO mare Strawberry Field (who sold for $1 million this week at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale). Pellizotti has previously notched 2 stakes-placings: in last October's Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m) at Flemington & January's Listed Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) at Caulfield. His sire Stratum is the leading Australian 1st-season sire by earnings & equal-leading Australian 1st-season sire by winners (with Glenlogan Park's Jet Spur also on 11).
